Frequently Asked Questions

IS TRAILBLAZER ORIENTATION REQUIRED?

Yes, all new students starting classes in summer or fall 2023 are required to attend Trailblazer Orientation. New students must attend orientation in order to meet the university’s orientation requirement and freshmen need to attend in order to have their Orientation Hold removed from their final class schedule. You can sign up for Trailblazer Orientation HERE; you will need your Utah Tech application log in information. Any students with extenuating circumstance who cannot attend any of the orientation dates should email newstudent@utahtech.edu.

HOW DO I REGISTER FOR CLASSES?

We look forward to helping you register for your classes. Freshmen starting in fall 2023 should complete the Fall 2023 Class Survey in order for their academic advisor to register them for fall classes. Freshmen starting in summer 2023 and all transfers can contact their academic advisor directly.

ACADEMIC ADVISEMENT
Academic Advisors will help you take ownership of your education as you participate in courses designed to promote active learning, active life at Utah Tech University. The advisement team will aid you in tailoring your class schedule to help you meet your educational goals and help mentor you on your way to graduation. WHAT IS TRAILBLAZER CONNECTIONS?

First-year freshmen are enrolled in Trailblazer Connections, Utah Tech’s premier first-year experience course to support their academic and social transition to college. All student in Trailblazer Connections are required to attend the pre-semester Trailblazer Connections where you will meet classmates, advisors, and faculty members and be introduced to your academic college and the Utah Tech student experience. You will then meet once per week throughout the fall semester with your specific Trailblazer Connections course. You will find Trailblazer Connection on your schedule as one of the following: SSC 1010, SSC 1020, SSC TRiO.

Wednesday, August 16: Check in at 7:30 AM; 8:30 AM-1:00 PM
Thursday, August 17: 9:00 AM-12:00 PM
Friday, August 18: 9:00 AM-12:00 PM
Attend afternoon and late-night freshmen programs meet other students and connect to the greater St. George community.

HOW MUCH DOES TRAILBLAZER ORIENTATION COST?

Trailblazer Orientation is $25 per student. But don’t worry about pulling out your wallet when you sign up, because the Orientation Fee is already included in your tuition. While we understand college is already expensive, this Orientation Fee will allow us to continue to provide a quality orientation program for new students, family members, and guests. We also want to be transparent about why we implemented this fee.

*We HIGHLY encourage you to bring a guest with you to support or time at Trailblazer Orientation, which is why the first guest can attend free of charge!

CAN MY FAMILY ATTEND ORIENTATION?

Yes! We encourage you to bring family members. Your guest can attend for free (included in the Orientation Fee)! Please note that the Family and Guest schedule is unique to the Student Schedule, and guests will not be able to join student small groups. WHAT ARE THE DATES OF TRAILBLAZER ORIENTATION?

You can check our the Trailblazer Orientation dates on our orientation date page. They will also be listed when you sign up for orientation HERE.

WHERE DO I PARK ONCE I ARRIVE TO TRAILBLAZER ORIENTATION?

Be sure to park in a WHITE or GREEN parking space. There are several parking options: Check out this map for specific locations.

WHAT IF I WANT TO COME AT A DIFFERENT TIME THAN WHAT I SIGNED UP FOR?

You can e-mail newstudent@utahtech.edu and New Student & Family Programs will attempt to reschedule you, depending on space availability.

IS THERE A DEADLINE TO REGISTER FOR AN ORIENTATION SESSION?

You should reserve your space as soon as you can determine the best time for you and other family members to attend. The deadline is 5 days prior to each session.

IF I AM TRAVELING FROM OUT OF TOWN AND FLYING IN, WHICH AIRPORT SHOULD I FLY INTO, AND ARE THERE SHUTTLES AVAILABLE?

Saint George has a regional airport that can be found at this website: www.flysgu.com. But the closest international airport is McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, NV. Depending on traffic, it takes approximately two hours to drive north to Saint George. There are several shuttle services available, although renting a car would be more convenient and allow you to see the area while you are here.

DO I NEED TO BE ADMITTED BEFORE ATTENDING TRAILBLAZER ORIENTATION?

Yes. All students should be admitted before attending.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO TRAILBLAZER ORIENTATION?

Dress comfortably; June and July in St. George will be hot, so wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing. You will also be walking around campus, so wear tennis shoes or other comfortable sneakers.

WHERE SHOULD I REPORT WHEN I ARRIVE TO TRAILBLAZER ORIENTATION?

Orientation begins at the Holland Plaza. There are several parking options: Check out this map for specific location.

WHAT BUSINESS CAN I TAKE CARE OF WHILE AT TRAILBLAZER ORIENTATION?

You will have the chance to visit any of our Student Services offices after orientation, including Financial Aid, Disability Resource Center, Housing, etc.

IS THERE A ONLINE OPTION FOR TRAILBLAZER ORIENTATION?

Yes, we have an online option for Trailblazer Orientation, however, this is only for students who cannot attend any of the in-person dates. Click here to sign up.
